Supporting CHD Awareness: A Cause Close to Our Hearts

Supporting CHD Awareness: A Cause Close to Our Hearts

At Lakewish, Co., giving back is at the heart of what we do. One cause that deeply resonates with us is Congenital Heart Defects (CHD). This is not just a charitable mission—it’s personal. My son, Braeden, was born with CHD, and our journey with him has opened our eyes to the challenges families face and the critical need for more research and support.

When you buy from us, a portion of your purchase is donated to research efforts on CHD. Learn more about CHD and why advancements in this field are essential for families everywhere!

What is CHD?

CHD is the most common birth defect, affecting nearly 1 in 100 babies born in the United States each year, according to the CDC. It encompasses a range of structural issues in the heart that are present at birth. Despite its prevalence, CHD remains severely underfunded when it comes to research and support compared to other childhood conditions.

Wisconsin’s Favorite CHD Organization: Project Bubaloo

Project Bubaloo highlights staggering statistics that underline the urgency for CHD awareness and funding:

  • CHD is the leading cause of birth defect-related deaths.
  • 25% of babies born with CHD require life-saving surgery or interventions before their first birthday.
  • Even with treatment, CHD is a lifelong condition, often requiring additional surgeries and care as children grow.

To date, Project Bubaloo has raised over $820,000 for CHD research. Check out their list of events for ways to get involved!

The Need for Research

Organizations like The Children’s Heart Foundation are working tirelessly to change this. Their mission is to advance research for better treatments, early detection, and improved quality of life for those living with CHD. However, CHD research receives only a fraction of the funding needed, leaving many questions unanswered and treatments limited.

Why Lakewish Gives Back

At Lakewish, our mission is to celebrate the Northern Wisconsin lifestyle and make a difference. A portion of every purchase goes to CHD organizations that drive research, provide resources for families, and raise awareness about this critical condition.

Supporting CHD awareness is about more than funding; it’s about fostering hope for families like ours. It’s about ensuring that every child born with CHD has access to the care they need and a future filled with possibilities.

Make sure you check out our Imperfect Heart Month Tumblers during the month of February! A portion of proceeds from each purchase from every tumbler sold is donated to Project Bubaloo, spreading community awareness and advancing the quality of care to those affected by congenital heart disease.

If CHD has touched your life or the life of someone you know, we invite you to join us in supporting this cause. Together, we can create waves of change.
